Borneo awesomeness

Happy travel tales!!

Adrian came to visit in Malaysia. While here, we went on a 11-days trip of Borneo awesomeness. The trip was short but amazing. Nature, food, people, music. All the elements in life that makes me happy. To recap:

Jul 01:

Arrived in KK. Checked into hostel in Jalan Gaya. Nothing flash about KK- in fact, it seems like a town stuck in the 80's. Architecture-wise. Anyhoo, asked reception about the town's best spots and was pointed to its 3 major malls. Go figure.




Spent the afternoon wandering around town and checking out the markets and the jetty. The harbour's pretty pretty especially during sunset. Fish market was a riot- fresh and CHEAP seafood. Swordfishes, 3 for RM5! Goodness.. if only I had a kitchen. Unfortunately, despite the availability of fresh seafood, dinner was surprisingly disappointing. We had grilled fish, crab and squid. Everything was meh. Walked home through some night market selling more used(?) looking clothing.

Hahaha.. I just discovered my old photos. Taken in Cherating with Gordie, SK, and Ping- 2004, July. I was...26! I love these photos. We drove overnight to Cherating, stayed up whole night to watch the sunrise and waited for the turtles to nest.... while having beer of course. And up to silly antics as usual.. This was the good ol' days before PhD, babies, girlfriends and boyfriends- when we could all still stay up late, and climb coconut trees. And no matter how hard I try- I just could not look not-dorky. I love you guys!

Victoria, Australia

During Mum's recent visit to Australia, we did a fair bit of traveling. In her 5 weeks stay here, I think we did more than 5000 km around Victoria and New South Wales. A graphical representation of the places we went to: I know the map above can be customized with Google map, but I don't know how, dammit! Techonolgy, sigh... Some of our highlights: 1. Saw most of Victoria's attractions. 2. Went from oh, total driving mileage in Melbourne = 5 km to scoring a massive 900 kms during our drive up to Sydney. It was fantastic because I've never done it before, we've pushed ourselves to drive overnight after a day of work and there's just something magical being on the road in a tiny 2-door Ford at 3 am. 3. Went to Dimboola, which is a small small country town, (population: 1700) from which Sonya hails from. My life, as viewed from my mobile phone

I've recently uploaded the random photos taken with my Sony Ericsson mobile phone. I think these are great photos because they capture the daily moments of randomness where I'm excited enough to well, take photos. This will be literally, snapshots of my life.. The extraordinary color of the Eucalyptus tree bark when it sheds. This picture was taken from Gerald's flat, and the building behind is the infamous Scheps- where I spent the first two years of my life (editted to add) IN MELBOURNE. My Scheps room after I've packed, and all ready to move out (sob)- taken for sentimental reasons. The lovely Abbottsford Convent, a old convent-turned-heritage ground/arts precinct/garden. I love this place. Taken during almost-sunset. The amazing Sony-Bravia-Ad worthy view from my room, during fall. Takes my breath away, every morning when I open my eyes.
