Sweet and Sour Pork

Recipe:

Use about 500g of mince pork.
Marinade with 3 tbsp of light soy sauce, sprinkle of salt, pepper, and 3 tsp of sesame oil.
Chop handful of spring onion, mix in with mince pork.
Beat in 1 egg and add 2 tbsp of flour.
Add in dash of mixed herbs (rosemary, thyme).
Mix well.

Heat oil in wok.
Roll mince into balls, and fry till brown.
Remove once done.

To make sauce:
500 ml of water, add in 1/2 cup of tomato ketchup.
Add in 3 tbsp of sugar. Mix and heat in wok.
Add in 1 onions (cut into bite size) and 1 tomato (bite size). Can add little bits of cut chilli for the extra zing, but not too much!
Simmer on medium heat till almost soft.
Add in meatballs.
Allow to simmer so that the saltiness of meatballs can blend in with sauce. Can squeeze in half a lime (not too much so that it won't be too sour).
Thicken with cornflour.

All measurements are approximation, and recommended to adjust final flavour to taste- add more sugar if sauce is flat.

Like Bolognaise Meatball sauce!! Except with ketchup!!!

Adventures of one Mrs. Wong in The Land Down Under

Mrs. Wong on her first (windy) Sunday in St. Kilda, with Gerald and Ginger (GG's). Mrs. Wong's first weekend in Melbourne- getting acquainted to Melbournian lifestyle with a cocktail in the afternoon! Mrs. Wong on the Great Ocean Road- she didn't like the cold wind (which was pretty frightful for Spring, but she thinks it was quite exciting). This trip involved a lot of very cold tiny Asian people scurrying from the People Mover (the car) to the spot of interest, peering out of their hoods/ scarves/ jackets for 30 seconds and mumbling through frozen lips "Ah, very nice" and back again to the comfort of the car. In the background is the 7 and 1/2 Apostles (formerly known as 12 Apostles). Said Mrs. Wong on her first winery tour around the Mornington Peninsula. Despite the rather chilly morning, she still couldn't resist Gelati. Sometimes I wonder who the kid is... Kinabalu Park, Part Deux

Mount Kinabalu was beautiful. On the first day at the National Park, we stayed at a hostel 500 m away. Once we dropped our bags and organized ourselves (or rather Jamil organized us) at the Park, we set out for hikes at the base of the Park. There were a few trails that ranged from a few hundred meters to approximately 2 km. It was quite amazing at how quiet it was- as in, we hiked for close to 4 hours and did not meet a single soul along the way. My favourite trail was the Bundu Tuhan trail. Not very long and a fairly steep hike, we reached the lookout and was rewarded with a beautiful view of the Kinabalu ranges. Although the view may not have been the best that we had during this trip, but because the spot was so isolated and quiet, I felt as if it's my own little patch on a hill. After spending some time admiring the view and contemplating life as one does when on a hill, we made our way down and back to the hostel, right before the heavens decided to pour down on us. View from...
